The company was founded in 1995 by writer- videographer-producers, Sidney and Mary Lee Nolan. The Nolans, who have many years of experience as university professors, began developing media for educational use in 1964. They have been producing videos for the educational market since 1988. In 1997, they began working with interactive multimedia developers as consultants and content providers. The Nolans have delivered numerous papers at professional meetings on the use of media in education and have been invited lecturers on media related topics at several universities, including Texas A&M University, College Station, TX, and the University of Regensburg, Germany.
Between them, the Nolans hold advanced degrees in Anthropology, Geography, History, Journalism, and Recreation Resource Development. In addition to this in house expertise, AMN staff members work with classroom teachers, university lecturers, and researchers, in developing educationally-oriented productions. AMN's recent earth science series was conceptualized and created in coordination with a National Science Foundation Teaching with Technology grant. Twelve AMN videos were selected by WEB-MacGraw Hill to initiate a Geosciences Video Library.
More than 120 AMN educational productions are currently on the market. These programs are available to schools through distributors. Best selling titles include "Understanding Ecosystems", "Africa, Continent of Contrasts", "America's Multicultural Heritage", "Gods and Heroes of Ancient Greece and Rome", and "Great Religions of the World". In addition to class-room oriented videos, AMN works with publishers serving the educational market to develop content for CD-ROMs, and WEB sites. Clients have included John Wiley and Sons, Saunders University Press, and ABC Clio.
AMN also develops interpretive and informational programs for a variety of public and private agencies and organizations. These have included Benton County, Oregon, the Corvallis, Oregon Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Oregon State University Foundation. |
